Ceiling fans typically have a lifetime of around 10-15 years, depending on the quality of the fan. Although, they can fail from dust buildup in the motor, too much moisture, and electrical issues to name a few. If your current ceiling fan is wobbling, making a grinding noise, the light or remote isn’t working, or you’re just looking for an upgrade, you can read more about some of these issues below.
Here are some of the most common issues related to aging ceiling fans…
Fan is wobbling – Your fan can become unbalanced over time due to normal wear and use. It may just need re-balancing. It can also be caused by an improper installation. In some cases, the fan was installed without an approved fan brace or fixture box attached securely to the ceiling joist.
Fan is making a grinding noise – This is usually caused by worn out bearings and it’s time for a new ceiling fan.
The fan light isn’t working – This could be due to a number of reasons such as the bulb is burned out, the wall switch is bad, an internal wiring issue, or even the remote may be bad. This will require troubleshooting from someone knowledgeable with ceiling fan issues.
I just need an upgrade! – As with any appliance, there are always new technologies or improvements that are continually being made. LED lights can save you money on your electricity bill, motors are being designed to be much quieter than previous motors, new design improvements to create better airflow, or even ceiling fans that can be controlled by Alexa.
