Kitchen faucets have an average lifespan of around 10-15 years.  If your faucet is leaking or in need of an upgrade, you will find some information below that may help.

Troubleshooting Tips

Faucet is loose.  Normal wear and use can cause a faucet to loosen up over time, and as a result, can give you problems.  You will have to remove any garbage cans, bottles, etc from under the sink so that you can crawl under there comfortably.  Lay on your back to find the thread & nut assembly to determine what tool is needed for the job.  Typically this will require a basin wrench. It’s a long adjustable wrench with a rotatable 90 degree claw-like head that grips the nut.  Maneuvering under the sink may be tricky and sinks with deep basins won’t give you much room to work.  Other obstacles may be in your way such as drain pipes, a garbage disposal, or a water filtration unit, etc.

Faucet is dripping from the spout.  A bad internal cartridge or a bad o-ring in the cartridge housing may be the culprit.  Fixing this is usually best left to a professional.

Faucet is dripping onto the counter top from the main faucet body.  This is also typically caused by a bad internal cartridge or cartridge o-ring.

Water is dripping from the looped faucet hose down under the sink. This could be caused by a couple of things.  Check the nut that attaches the sprayer head to the hose.  It may just be loose and can be tightened by hand.  This is a common occurrence with that setup. As a result, water will leak down the faucet hose to the cabinet below and can cause a lot of water damage.  This happened to one of my clients and, as a result, damaged the ceiling in the room below.

It may even be a problem with the internal cartridge or a cracked faucet body (rare) and will need a pro to check it out.
